ECUADORIAN LODGING COMPANY REPRESENTED IN PRIME TOURIST SPOTS

Ecuadorian firm Art Hotels Ecuador is preparing to open its fourth property, with the family owned company eagerly building a presence in mainland Ecuador’s main tourism centres. Art Hotels Ecuador — which opened its first hotel in 2018 — plans to open the Hotel Rio Guayas in the coastal city of Guayaquil later this year, a property that will follow its existing three luxury boutique hotels, the Hotel Mama Cuchara in the capital of Quito; the Hotel Otavalo in Otavalo, known for its Indigenous markets; and Hotel Cruz del Vado in the Andean city of Cuenca.

Guayaquil among other things serves as a gateway to the Galapagos.

Art Hotels Ecuador president Sebastian Vergara says foreign tourists who stay with his hotels will find their Ecuadorian vacation enhanced.

“Staying with an Ecuadorian hotel chain like Art Hotels Ecuador offers travellers an authentic experience deeply rooted in the country’s culture and heritage,” he says. “Each hotel reflects the history, art, and culture of its location, allowing guests to connect with Ecuador in a way that larger, international chains may not provide. Moreover, by choosing to stay at an Ecuadorian-owned chain, visitors directly support local economies and initiatives aimed at community development and sustainability – which is deeply embedded into our brand DNA.”

Art Hotels Ecuador is one of the more recent additions to the South American lodging scene but Vergara says it has developed a growing reputation among tour operators, travel advisors and international travellers, particularly from North America.

“With properties located in culturally rich and popular tourist destinations like Quito, Otavalo, and Cuenca, the brand has successfully catered to discerning global travellers seeking unique, luxury experiences,” he reports. “Since opening our first hotel, Hotel Mama Cuchara in 2018, our business from North America has grown by 280%. Our focus on blending modern amenities with Ecuador’s historical and cultural richness has made us a favourite among travel agents who prioritize both comfort and authenticity for their clients. Additionally, through our sister company, Art Experiences Travel, we can curate transformational travel experiences that further attract visitors. This offering allows travel advisors to deal with one central contact at the hotel of their choice to create a uniquely memorable Ecuadorian experience which is not offered by other DMC’s in the country.”

Vergara adds that Art Hotels Ecuador is committed to creating boutique hotels that are not just places to stay but are also immersive cultural experiences.

“Each of our properties is housed in a historically significant patrimonial building that has been meticulously restored and modernized to provide unparalleled luxury while preserving its original character,” he continues. “For instance, Hotel Mama Cuchara in Quito offers an exquisite blend of contemporary design with colonial-era architecture, featuring an art gallery that highlights local Ecuadorian artists and artisans. Hotel Otavalo, located in a region renowned for its Indigenous markets, integrates local craftsmanship and traditions into the guest experience. Hotel Cruz del Vado in Cuenca is a beautifully restored mansion with stunning views of the city’s colonial centre, blending history with comfort.

“Our upcoming Hotel Rio Guayas in Guayaquil will continue this tradition by offering guests modern luxury while honouring the city’s rich cultural history and giving a true nod to the historic Las Peñas neighbourhood it is located in. This neighbourhood is where Guayaquil was born and was declared a cultural heritage site. Las Peñas is known for its cobblestone streets, vibrant colonial architecture, and its historical significance, having been home to many prominent figures, including presidents, musicians, and even Che Guevara.”
Vergara adds that his company is committed to sustainability and community engagement, incorporating eco-friendly practices across its properties and actively participating in local development initiatives, including educational programs, fair trade practices, and community support.

He adds that Art Hotels Ecuador plans to expand, considering future locations in the Galapagos Islands, which will further diversify its portfolio and enhance the experiences it offers. “Our goal is to continue growing while maintaining our commitment to art, heritage preservation and sustainable tourism.”

But he adds that the company already has a diverse portfolio.

“Art Hotels Ecuador’s portfolio spans some of the most diverse and culturally rich regions in Ecuador,” Vergara continues. “In Quito, Hotel Mama Cuchara offers guests a stay in the heart of the capital’s historic centre, surrounded by stunning colonial architecture. Hotel Otavalo provides an immersive experience in the Andean highlands, where guests can engage with indigenous communities and explore the famous markets. Hotel Cruz del Vado in Cuenca offers a unique blend of colonial history and modern luxury in one of the country’s most picturesque cities.

“Hotel Rio Guayas in Guayaquil, once open, will introduce travellers to the vibrant energy of the country’s largest coastal city and serve as a gateway to the Galapagos. Each destination we are in offers a unique experience that reflects the local culture, architecture, and history, ensuring that our guests leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Ecuador and its people.”

Vergara says travellers who choose Ecuador for their vacations will be rewarded.

“Ecuador is a truly remarkable travel destination, offering unparalleled biodiversity, rich cultural history, and a wide range of adventure opportunities,” he states. “From the Andean highlands to the Amazon rainforest, and of course, the famous Galapagos Islands, Ecuador provides something for every type of traveler. It is a country where visitors can explore ancient ruins, vibrant markets, and breathtaking landscapes, all within a short distance from one another.

“In addition to its natural wonders, Ecuador is a cultural hub, boasting colonial cities, rich Indigenous traditions, and world-class cuisine. Choosing Ecuador for a vacation means diving into a diverse and vibrant country that is both welcoming and full of adventure. Art Hotels Ecuador enhances this experience by offering luxurious accommodations that are deeply connected to the country’s cultural and artistic heritage, making the journey even more memorable.

“At Art Hotels Ecuador, our mission goes beyond providing luxury accommodations. We are deeply committed to preserving Ecuador’s rich history, art, and culture through our properties and initiatives. We invite travellers from around the world to experience the beauty and heritage of Ecuador with us. With our upcoming expansion to Guayaquil and future projects on the horizon, we look forward to continuing to showcase Ecuador’s unique charm through exceptional service, curated experiences and a dedication to sustainability.”
