Sustainability

For Art Hotels Ecuador, sustainability begins with a deep commitment: to restore, preserve, and share the country’s heritage through responsible operations connected to its culture, its people, and its territories.

Since our beginnings, we have understood hospitality as a way to create value beyond the stay, integrating environmental practices, local development, heritage protection, gastronomy rooted in identity, and responsible relationships with team members, suppliers, communities, and travelers.

This journey has been supported by milestones that strengthen our management approach. In 2019, Hotel Mama Cuchara obtained the Green Globe certification under the Hotel & Resort standard, consolidating a foundation of sustainable management practices across environmental responsibility, heritage, community, and responsible operations. Today, as a Certified B Corporation™, this represents a consistent way for us to manage hospitality with coherence.

For us, this means that sustainability is progressively integrated into the way we restore heritage buildings, design experiences, work with communities, promote local culture, care for resources, and build long-term relationships. Our commitment is to continue demonstrating that tourism in Ecuador can be memorable, profitable, and responsibly managed.

“Tourism with Purpose, Identity, and Responsibility”

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We connect with people, communities, and partners who are essential to each destination. Our commitment seeks to strengthen fair relationships with team members, suppliers, artisans, local entrepreneurs, and neighbors, creating opportunities that help preserve Ecuador’s culture, crafts, and traditions. We believe tourism should generate connection, recognition, and well-being in the territories where we operate.

SUSTAINABILITY

Caring for the environment is part of the way we operate. In every project, we seek to reduce unnecessary resource use, make the most of existing infrastructure, promote sound environmental practices, and make decisions that respect the natural and heritage value of each place. Sustainability guides the way we restore, serve, purchase, design experiences, and share Ecuador with our guests and travelers.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

Every initiative must be able to sustain itself over time. For Art Hotels Ecuador, responsible economic impact makes it possible to pay fair prices, work with local suppliers, improve processes, strengthen operations, and generate value for communities connected to tourism. When a project cares for people, respects the environment, and can be maintained through its own means, it becomes a truly sustainable action.

SUSTAINABILITY PRINCIPLES

Sustainability is part of the way we manage hospitality. Every project must respond to a clear standard: to generate value for people, care for the environment, and sustain itself over time through a responsible economic foundation. That is why we follow the Three Pillars of Sustainability as a guide to evaluate and implement each initiative.

This standard allows good practices to remain viable and become part of the operation. The economic benefit of a project may be reflected in savings, efficiency, productivity, or better use of resources. The importance of these pillars lies in their balance. In this way, sustainability stops being an isolated initiative and becomes a responsible way of making decisions

SUSTAINABILITY PILLARS

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

At Art Hotels Ecuador, we work with suppliers who share sustainable practices or have the potential to integrate them into their operations. Our responsibility is to support, evaluate, and strengthen these relationships to ensure that their purpose, processes, and way of working are aligned with our values of social responsibility, environmental care, quality, collaboration, and local development.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

EXPERIENCES

Local entrepreneurs are essential partners in helping travelers understand culture through their own voices, crafts, and ways of life. Working with fair prices strengthens the circular economy in the communities we collaborate with, recognizing the true value of their time, knowledge, and dedication.

Our approach prioritizes experiences with lower volume, higher quality, and personalized attention, where exclusivity is built through respect, authenticity, and positive impact in each territory.

SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES

For curious and responsible travelers, we offer sustainability challenges that invite them to travel with greater awareness. These actions make it possible to better understand the impact of each journey, contribute to carbon footprint compensation, and participate in initiatives that leave a positive contribution in the destinations visited. Each challenge seeks to transform the travel experience into an opportunity for learning, connection with the territory, and shared responsibility.

ART HOTELS ECUADOR

SOCIAL PILLARS

We believe a great journey is built by listening to each client’s purpose and connecting them with the right people, communities, and experiences. Collaboration allows us to design meaningful journeys where every encounter brings value to the traveler and to the territory that welcomes them.

We work alongside local partners, entrepreneurs, artisans, and communities to create experiences that generate learning, cultural recognition, and shared positive impact.

We support local entrepreneurs so they can offer high-level experiences while preserving the passion, knowledge, and traditions that give meaning to their work. Our role is to strengthen their service capabilities, hospitality standards, and attention to detail, while keeping intact the authenticity that makes each encounter valuable.

We also prepare our travelers to approach each experience with respect, openness, and curiosity. We share the necessary context to understand the territory, its people, and the traditions that form part of the journey, allowing discovery to happen naturally. In this way, every trip becomes an opportunity for mutual learning, cultural connection, and positive impact.

We believe the culture, traditions, and crafts of a destination must be valued fairly. Many artisans and local entrepreneurs preserve knowledge passed down from generation to generation, even though their activities often face limited demand and historically low pricing. When their work is not fairly compensated, the possibility of living with dignity from their craft and continuing to preserve the identity of their community becomes weaker.

For Art Hotels Ecuador and Art Experiences Travel, paying fair prices is a concrete way to protect living heritage. This practice strengthens the circular economy, allows tourism value to remain in the territory, and recognizes the time, technique, creativity, and history behind each experience. By working this way, we help new generations see their traditions as a real opportunity for the future, pride, and local development.

Cultural conservation also depends on the recognition received by those who keep the crafts, knowledge, and traditions of a destination alive. For Art Hotels Ecuador and Art Experiences Travel, it is essential to make these extraordinary people visible, strengthen their confidence, and highlight the value of their talent within each experience.

When artisans, entrepreneurs, and guardians of culture become protagonists of the journey, their work gains greater prestige among visitors and within their own community. This recognition helps new generations see their traditions as a source of pride, development, and future. In this way, every encounter with travelers contributes to preserving local identity and keeping Ecuador’s cultural memory alive.

We believe travelers can become active participants in the positive impact we seek to create in each destination. That is why we design sustainability challenges that invite them to take part in responsible, meaningful actions coordinated with local partners, from community improvement activities to spaces for cultural exchange, learning, and support for social projects.

Each challenge is developed with respect for the real needs of the territory and the dignity of the people involved. The purpose is for travel to go beyond observation and become an opportunity to contribute time, empathy, and knowledge consciously. In this way, visitors understand the place they explore more deeply, strengthen their connection with the community, and leave a positive contribution that remains beyond their stay.

When travelers book with us, they become part of a more conscious way of discovering Ecuador. Each experience is designed to connect the journey with small local actors, micro-entrepreneurs, artisans, producers, and guardians of culture who bring each destination to life through their work, knowledge, and traditions.

Our purpose is for small local businesses to become a central part of the travel decision. By giving them visibility, creating fair opportunities, and connecting them with responsible visitors, we contribute to strengthening the circular economy, keeping cultural identity alive, and fostering a deeper commitment between tourism, community, and territory. Every visit becomes an opportunity to discover the country while supporting those who preserve it from within.
